  • Excessive exercising - regular exercise is highly recommended for the human body, regardless of the woman's weight it is important to exercise and stay fit. However, excessive exercise may also negatively impact your menstrual cycles, and disturb your ovulation window. In such cases, while you are trying to conceive, it is best to exercise a moderate amount, such as brisk walking or yoga.
  • Fluctuation in weight - don't suddenly increase or decrease your weight as sudden weight loss or gain may cause hormonal disruptions, leading to infertility. It is suggested to maintain a BMI between 18.5 and 27. (Or the BMI your doctor advises)
  • Alcohol - don't wait until you have the symptoms of pregnancy to stop consuming alcohol, it is best to give it up completely. Both you and your partner will have to stop consuming alcohol while you're still trying, as the consumption of alcohol by the parent, means your baby is consuming it too. It directly harms the baby's brain and growth in the nervous system.

  • Smoking - smoking must be completely stopped right at the planning stage. Excessive smoking may damage your reproductive system and may make certain changes causing your ovaries to produce lesser eggs and decreasing the sperm count for women and men respectively.
  • Binging on junk food - firstly, stop excessive consumption of caffeinated beverages, as it may negatively affect your fertility. There is no exact diet to be followed, but it is better to avoid a high intake of sugar or processed foods. It is advised to eat the right amount of nutritious fruits and vegetables that contain enough protein and keep you fit.

In case you have been taking medical treatments for any other illness, it is best to take your doctor's advice whether to continue the medication while you're trying to conceive or not. In case you have been following the right diet and exercising regularly, and are still having trouble conceiving, it is best to visit your doctor immediately and figure out the source of the issue. Amidst the stress, remember to always have hope. Stay healthy, stay happy!
